HIFU for skin laxity
Firmer skin without surgery · with judgment
HIFU uses focused ultrasound to heat deep layers of the skin and stimulate new collagen, with no incisions and no needles. It works for mild to moderate skin laxity, and the result builds gradually. At iki we recommend it when it’s the right tool · and we tell you when it isn’t.

HIFU for skin laxity is high-intensity focused ultrasound that heats precise points in the deep dermis and the muscle-aponeurotic layer (SMAS) to stimulate new collagen. At iki it’s done with Liftera HIFU after a medical consultation. It’s a single session with no incisions and no downtime, and firmness appears gradually over 2 to 3 months.

What a HIFU session for skin laxity is like at iki
A HIFU session isn’t decided on the treatment bed. It’s decided earlier, at the consultation, when the physician confirms that your degree of laxity is within what ultrasound can improve.
Consultation and mapping
The physician assesses skin thickness, the degree of laxity and your expectations. If HIFU is the indication, areas and depths are set out in a written plan.
Skin preparation
Cleansing, clinical photos for follow-up and marking of the area. Then a conductive gel is applied so the ultrasound reaches the tissue evenly.
Layer-by-layer treatment
The handpiece delivers points of energy at different depths depending on the area. You feel heat and brief pinpricks at moments · it’s tolerable and doesn’t require anesthesia.
After the session and follow-up
Mild redness may last a few hours. You return to your activities the same day, and a follow-up visit is scheduled to review progress with comparable photos.
What it offers
Works on the SMAS
It reaches the layer addressed in a surgical facelift · without incisions and without damaging the skin’s surface.
Your own collagen
Controlled heat activates the skin’s natural repair. Nothing is injected · the firmness comes from your own tissue.
No time off
No anesthesia and no recovery time. It fits a demanding work schedule.
Redefines the contour
It helps the cheekbones, jawline, neck and double chin when laxity is mild to moderate.
Gradual change
The improvement builds over weeks, gradually and in keeping with your features.
Technology with an indication

Liftera HIFU
Liftera is a high-intensity focused ultrasound device that works by depth, which lets us treat face and body with the same layer-by-layer logic. We chose it because it allows us to adjust energy and depth to each area and each skin thickness. The device doesn’t replace judgment · it carries it out.
Results and aftercare
Some people notice tighter skin from day one, but the real change is gradual: new collagen forms over 2 to 3 months. The effect typically lasts 12 to 18 months, which is why many plans include a maintenance session, usually once a year. HIFU improves firmness · it doesn’t replace surgery when there is excess skin.
Aftercare after the session
- Daily sunscreen · SPF 50
- Gentle hydration during the first few days
- Avoid intense heat, sauna and steam room for 48–72 hours
- No exfoliants or retinoids on the area during the first week
- Contact us if tenderness to the touch doesn’t ease within a few days
Results vary from patient to patient.

See treatmentFrequently asked questions
Does HIFU hurt?
You feel deep heat and brief pinpricks at the points where the device delivers energy, more noticeable over bony areas such as the jaw. Most people describe it as tolerable, and it doesn’t require anesthesia. The physician adjusts the energy during the session to your sensitivity, without going below what the indication needs.
How many HIFU sessions will I need?
In most cases one session is enough to see the effect, followed by maintenance, usually once a year. The exact number depends on the degree of laxity, the quality of your skin and what else is combined in the plan. We define it in writing at the consultation.
When will I see HIFU results?
Some people notice tighter skin from day one, but that initial effect is partial. The result builds gradually over 2 to 3 months as the skin produces new collagen. That’s why follow-up photos are compared at 8–12 weeks, not the next day.
Does HIFU work for any degree of skin laxity?
No. It works for mild to moderate laxity. When there is excess skin or marked sagging, HIFU isn’t enough, and the honest thing is to say so: the indication may be surgical or a combined plan. At iki we would rather not do a procedure than promise a result the technology can’t deliver.
Can HIFU be combined with other treatments?
Yes. HIFU works on deep firmness and pairs well with treatments that act on other layers: botulinum toxin for expression, hyaluronic acid for volume, a thread lift to reposition or Zaffiro for skin quality. The physician sets the order and the timing between them in your plan.
Is it safe for darker or tanned skin?
HIFU doesn’t act on pigment, so skin tone isn’t a limitation the way it is with some lasers. Even so, no treatment is free of side effects: there may be redness, mild swelling or temporary sensitivity. That’s why every skin is assessed at the consultation and sunscreen is recommended afterward.
Can I have HIFU while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. During pregnancy and breastfeeding we postpone energy-based aesthetic procedures such as HIFU. It’s also not applied over wounds, active infections or areas with implants that haven’t been reviewed. At the consultation we go over your history and medications to confirm it’s the right time.
How long does a HIFU session take?
Between 45 and 90 minutes, depending on the areas. A small area such as the double chin takes less time than the full face with the neck. Afterward you can return to your normal activities the same day; redness, if it appears, usually fades within a few hours.
