Laser hair removal for men

A defined beard, a hair-free back · with a realistic plan

At iki, laser hair removal for men treats the beard, neck, back, chest, abdomen and other areas with Splendor X. On the beard, it is used mainly to define contours and reduce folliculitis from shaving. Male hair is coarse and dense: it responds well, but the plan usually needs more sessions.

In short

Laser hair removal for men reduces hair on the beard, neck, back, chest or abdomen with light absorbed by the pigment in the follicle. At iki it is done with Splendor X, which combines Alexandrite and Nd:YAG for different skin types. On the beard, it helps define contours and reduce ingrown hairs. Male hair usually needs more sessions; results vary from patient to patient.

Who it’s for · and who it isn’t

Indicated when

  • Beard folliculitis or ingrown hairs on the neck and cheeks from daily shaving
  • Men who want to define the beard line on the cheeks and neck without shaving those areas
  • Heavy hair on the back, shoulders, chest or abdomen
  • Athletes or swimmers who shave often

Not the right time if

  • Gray, white or very light hair · the laser has no pigment to act on
  • Anyone unsure about wanting less beard in the future · the reduction can’t be reversed at will
  • A recent deep tan, or photosensitizing medication without medical review
  • Anyone looking for a guarantee of zero hair · the laser reduces, it doesn’t guarantee

The physician makes the final indication at the consultation. Results vary from patient to patient.

What laser hair removal for men at iki looks like

For men, the key conversation is the design: which areas are reduced and where the hair is kept. That decision is made before the first session, without rushing.

  1. Consultation and design

We review your skin type, hair thickness, medications, and any use of testosterone or hormonal supplements. On the beard, we mark the line that stays and the areas to be treated, such as the upper cheeks and neck.

  2. Preparation

You shave the area the day before and arrive without creams or lotions. For the back, if you can’t reach to shave it, let us know before your appointment.

  3. Session with Splendor X

The device moves across the area with settings adjusted to coarse, dense hair, while Z-Cryo cooling protects the skin. Each pulse feels like a brief, prickling heat, more intense in the first sessions.

  4. Follow-up

The treated hair sheds over the following days. Between sessions, shaving only. At each appointment, we review the response and adjust energy, interval and design.

What it offers

Less beard folliculitis

Reducing the hair that grows inward usually reduces the bumps, irritation and dark marks shaving leaves behind.

A cleaner beard design

Defined cheeks and neck without shaving those areas every day.

Laser hair removal for men on large areas

The back, chest and abdomen are treated in fewer passes thanks to the Splendor X handpiece.

Suitable for darker skin

The Nd:YAG lets us treat higher skin types with a wider safety margin by adjusting the energy.

Technology with an indication

Splendor X laser hair removal device by Lumenis, blue and white with an articulated arm

Splendor X (Lumenis)

Splendor X emits two lasers simultaneously: Alexandrite (755 nm), highly effective on dark hair over fair skin, and Nd:YAG (1064 nm), which penetrates deeper and is gentler on darker skin. With coarse, deep male hair, being able to adjust the mix and pulse duration allows more precise work. Z-Cryo cooling helps make dense areas such as the beard more tolerable.

Results and aftercare

After each session, less hair grows back, and it grows back finer. On the beard, the reduction is gradual, and the most resistant hair is on the mustache and chin. By the end of the initial plan, the usual outcome is a significant reduction, not the complete absence of hair, and male hair usually needs more sessions and touch-ups. Testosterone, anabolic steroids and other hormonal changes can stimulate new hair growth.

Aftercare after the session

  • Avoid direct sun on the area for at least one week and use sunscreen on the face
  • Don’t shave the treated area the same day · shave the next day with a clean razor
  • Avoid intense exercise, sauna and pool the following day
  • No waxing or tweezing between sessions · shaving only
  • Tell us if you start or change testosterone, supplements or other medications

Results vary from patient to patient. Laser hair removal reduces hair progressively; there is no guarantee that it won’t grow back.

Frequently asked questions

Does laser hair removal help with beard folliculitis?

It’s usually one of the best tools. Beard folliculitis appears when coarse, curved hair grows inward after shaving. Reducing and thinning that hair reduces the bumps and irritation. If there are active pustules or an infection on the day of the appointment, the skin is brought under control first and treated afterward.

Can I just shape my beard instead of removing it?

Yes, and it’s the most common choice. We mark the line that stays and treat only the areas outside it, such as the upper cheeks, neck or between the brows. It’s worth thinking the design through: the reduction can’t be reversed at will. If you’re unsure, it’s better to start conservatively and adjust in later sessions.

Why do men need more sessions?

Male hair is usually thicker, denser and more testosterone-dependent, especially on the beard, chest and back. It responds well to the laser but takes longer to reduce. The plan usually starts with 6 sessions and often needs more, plus touch-ups over time. We give you a realistic range at the consultation.

Does laser hair removal hurt for men?

In areas with dense hair, such as the beard or chest, the first sessions are felt more: a brief, prickling heat with each pulse. Z-Cryo cooling protects the skin, and the energy is adjusted if the discomfort is high. As the hair decreases, the sensation usually eases.

Can the whole back be treated?

Yes. The back, shoulders, chest and abdomen are common areas for men. Because they are large surfaces, the session takes longer than on the face, but the Splendor X handpiece covers them in fewer passes. Several areas can be combined in the same appointment.

I use testosterone or supplements · does that affect the result?

It can. Testosterone, anabolic steroids and some supplements stimulate hair growth and can cause new hair to appear or slow the reduction. It isn’t a contraindication, but it’s worth knowing from the start so we can set a realistic plan and realistic expectations.

How much does laser hair removal for men cost?

It depends on the area and the number of sessions: face and neck, back or chest, or several areas combined all change the price. There are 6-session packages and touch-ups. You receive written prices at the free consultation, along with your plan. Your consultation at iki is free · 45 minutes.
