Skin and hair genetic testing in Bogotá

A tool for deciding · not a treatment

Genetic tests analyze DNA variants that influence how the body responds to certain treatments and nutrients. At iki we work with TrichoTest, AcneTest, TeloTest, SportsTest and NutriGen. They don’t treat anything on their own · they help choose better when the usual treatment hasn’t worked.

In short

At iki, in Bogotá, we use TrichoTest, AcneTest, TeloTest, SportsTest and NutriGen to personalize treatments that haven’t responded. It is a tool for medical decisions, not a treatment.

What you get
A report the physician turns into a plan

Who it’s for · and who it isn’t

Indicated when

  • Alopecia that didn’t respond to minoxidil or other properly prescribed treatments
  • Recurring adult acne that returns after every protocol
  • People who want to adjust nutrition, supplements or habits with their own data
  • Athletes looking to guide training, recovery and diet

Not the right time if

  • Anyone expecting the test to be the treatment · the test guides, it doesn’t treat
  • Hair loss or acne without a basic evaluation · a clinical exam comes first and, if needed, lab work
  • Anyone seeking a diagnosis of a disease · these tests don’t diagnose diseases
  • Cases that respond well to standard treatment · there, the test doesn’t change the decision

The physician makes the final indication at the consultation. Results vary from patient to patient.

Skin and hair genetic testing in Bogotá · how it works at iki

The test doesn’t replace the consultation. It is recommended when the response to the usual treatment wasn’t what we expected, or when genetic information can change a specific decision.

  1. Consultation

The physician reviews your history, previous treatments and any available tests. They decide whether a test adds something and which one, or whether another cause needs to be ruled out first.

  2. Sample collection

It is quick, non-invasive and done in the office, following the lab’s instructions. The sample is sent for analysis.

  3. Report

The lab delivers a report with the variants analyzed. Read on its own, it is a technical document · that’s why it is reviewed at a consultation.

  4. Adjusted plan

The physician turns the report into decisions: which active ingredient, which formula, what to adjust in your routine, nutrition or in-clinic treatment.

What it offers

TrichoTest

Analyzes variants related to alopecia and to the response to hair actives. It helps choose the formula for mesotherapy or at-home treatment.

AcneTest

Looks at genetic predisposition related to acne, such as oil production or inflammation. Useful in adult acne that keeps coming back.

TeloTest

Estimates telomere length, a marker of biological aging. It gives context for decisions about habits, not a treatment.

SportsTest and NutriGen

SportsTest offers guidance on performance, recovery and injury risk. NutriGen analyzes how your body processes certain nutrients, to personalize your diet.

Technology with an indication

✦

Genetics applied to the consultation

The tests analyze polymorphisms, small variations in DNA, associated with processes such as androgen sensitivity, inflammation, collagen formation or nutrient metabolism. Genetics shows tendencies, not destinies: environment, hormones and habits weigh as much as DNA. That’s why the result is always read together with your medical history.

Results and aftercare

The test doesn’t change your skin or hair. Its result is a better-informed plan: an adjusted hair formula, an acne protocol that takes your predisposition into account, or nutrition and habit recommendations. Changes, when they come, depend on the treatment chosen based on the report and on consistency.

Aftercare after the session

  • Follow the lab’s instructions before the sample is taken
  • Bring a list of previous treatments, medications and supplements to the consultation
  • Don’t change medications or supplements on your own based on the report
  • Continue your current treatment until the follow-up, unless your physician says otherwise
  • Keep the report · your genes don’t change, and it is useful for future decisions

Results vary from patient to patient.

Frequently asked questions

What is TrichoTest?

It’s a genetic test for hair loss. It analyzes variants related to alopecia and to how the scalp responds to different active ingredients. With the report, the physician adjusts the formula for hair mesotherapy or at-home treatment. It doesn’t make hair grow on its own.

Who is a genetic test right for?

For anyone who has already followed a properly prescribed treatment without the expected response: alopecia that doesn’t improve, adult acne that returns after every protocol, or someone who wants to adjust nutrition and habits with their own data. If the usual treatment works, the test almost never changes the decision, and we’ll tell you so.

How is the sample taken?

It’s a quick, non-invasive collection done in the office, following the lab’s instructions, which you receive before the appointment. The sample is sent for analysis and the report arrives in a few weeks. It is done only once, because your DNA doesn’t change over the years.

Does a genetic test diagnose diseases?

No. These tests look at predispositions and responses to treatments or nutrients; they don’t diagnose diseases. Hair loss can be due to the thyroid, low iron or stress, and that is studied with a clinical exam and lab work. The test adds to that workup, it doesn’t replace it.

What does TeloTest measure?

It estimates the length of telomeres, the ends of chromosomes that shorten with age and are used as a marker of biological aging. It gives context on habits such as sleep, stress or diet. There is no proven aesthetic treatment that lengthens telomeres, and we don’t present it as one.

What’s the difference between NutriGen and SportsTest?

NutriGen analyzes how your body processes nutrients such as fats, carbohydrates or vitamins, and helps personalize your diet. SportsTest focuses on variants related to the type of exertion, recovery and injury risk. Both are reviewed with the physician, who decides what changes in the plan.

How much does a genetic test cost in Bogotá?

Each test has its own price. Before recommending one we assess whether it will really change the plan, because a test that doesn’t change any decision isn’t worth it. The full price is given in writing at the consultation, along with the plan. Your consultation at iki is free · 45 minutes.

Does the test replace treatment?

No. The test is a decision tool: it indicates which active ingredients are more likely to work or what to adjust in your habits. Change in your skin or hair depends on the treatment chosen afterward, on consistency and on factors that aren’t genetic. Results vary from patient to patient.
