Cosmelan in Bogotá

One mask in the clinic · months of consistency at home

Cosmelan is a depigmenting protocol that starts with a mask applied by the physician and continues with a maintenance cream at home for months. It’s designed for melasma and spots that don’t fade with your routine. It works when you see it as a process · not a single session.

In short

Cosmelan is a medical-grade depigmenting protocol for melasma and stubborn spots. It has two phases: a mask the physician applies in the clinic, which you remove at home hours later, and a maintenance cream used for months. At iki, in Bogotá, it’s indicated after a consultation that confirms the type of spot and your skin type. Lightening is gradual.

Who it’s for · and who it isn’t

Indicated when

  • Diagnosed melasma that doesn’t respond to a routine and sunscreen alone
  • Extensive sun spots or post-inflammatory marks on the face
  • Skin that has already tried superficial peels without enough change
  • People who can keep up several weeks of strict care at home

Not the right time if

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding · it’s postponed
  • Intense sun planned in the following months, such as beach trips with no way to protect yourself
  • Dermatitis, wounds or active cold sores in the area
  • Anyone looking for a result before an upcoming event · the skin goes through days of redness and peeling

The physician makes the final indication at the consultation. Results vary from patient to patient.

How the Cosmelan depigmenting protocol works at iki

The protocol has one part in the clinic and a longer one at home. Much of the result depends on the second.

  1. Consultation and diagnosis of the spot

We confirm whether it’s melasma, a sun spot or a post-inflammatory mark, review your skin type (Fitzpatrick) and history, and rule out lesions that need to be evaluated first. If Cosmelan isn’t the best option, we’ll tell you.

  2. Prep

Depending on the case, you may follow a prep routine and pause some actives. On the day of the appointment, the skin is cleansed and degreased so the mask works evenly.

  3. Mask in the clinic

The physician applies the depigmenting mask to your face. You leave the clinic with it on and remove it at home at the time you’re given, which depends on your skin type and sensitivity.

  4. Days of redness and peeling

Over the following days the skin turns red, feels tight and peels. It’s managed with the hydration and aftercare you receive in writing.

  5. Maintenance at home and follow-ups

You apply the kit’s maintenance cream on the schedule you’re given, with daily sunscreen. At follow-ups the physician adjusts the frequency and decides whether another treatment should be added.

What it offers

Works on several fronts

It combines actives that slow melanin production with a renewal of the skin’s surface layer. It doesn’t rely on a single mechanism.

Designed for stubborn spots

It’s one of the protocols reserved for melasma and spots that don’t fade with superficial peels or creams.

Continuity at home

The at-home phase extends the effect of the clinic session and helps maintain what you’ve gained · without it, the result falls short.

Part of the plan

It can come before or complement tranexamic acid mesotherapy or maintenance peels, depending on how your skin responds.

Technology with an indication

✦

Cosmelan · medical-grade protocol

Cosmelan isn’t a device · it’s a medical-grade depigmenting protocol applied in the clinic and continued at home with its kit. For underarms and the intimate area there’s a specific version, Dermamelan Intimate, also with an at-home kit. At iki, the physician decides whether to use it, how long the mask stays on and the maintenance schedule after examining your skin.

Results and aftercare

After the days of redness and peeling, skin usually looks more even and spots show less contrast, and lightening continues during maintenance at home. With sun spots the change tends to be more stable. With melasma the protocol helps control it, but doesn’t cure it: sun, heat and hormonal changes can reactivate it, which is why the plan includes long-term maintenance.

Aftercare after the session

  • Remove the mask at the exact time you’re given · not earlier, not later
  • Tinted broad-spectrum sunscreen, every day, reapplied
  • Don’t pull off peeling skin · let it shed on its own
  • The moisturizer or repair cream your physician recommends during the days of redness
  • Follow the maintenance cream schedule without skipping days or increasing it on your own
  • Avoid saunas, intense heat and strenuous exercise for the first few days

Results vary from patient to patient.

Frequently asked questions

What is Cosmelan and what is it for?

It’s a medical-grade depigmenting protocol that combines a mask applied in the clinic with a maintenance cream at home. It’s for melasma and extensive or stubborn spots on the face. It isn’t just another peel: its effect depends as much on the clinic session as on your consistency at home over the following months.

Does Cosmelan get rid of melasma for good?

No. Melasma is a chronic condition · it’s controlled, not cured. Cosmelan can lighten it significantly, but it tends to come back with sun, heat, visible light and hormonal changes. That’s why the plan includes daily sunscreen, a routine at home and long-term maintenance follow-ups.

How long is the Cosmelan mask left on?

It depends on your skin type, how sensitive your skin is and the type of spot. It’s several hours, and the physician gives you the exact time to remove it at home with water and a gentle cleanser. Leaving it on longer than indicated doesn’t improve the result, but it does increase irritation.

What happens to my skin in the following days?

Redness, tightness, a feeling of warmth and peeling are expected, generally for one to two weeks. Many people prefer not to have social events during those days. It’s managed with the hydration and aftercare you receive in writing. If you notice intense burning or blisters, get in touch the same day.

Does Cosmelan work on darker skin?

It can be indicated with judgment. Higher skin types tend to develop spots after any inflammation, so mask time, prep and sun care are adjusted more cautiously. The consultation determines whether it’s the best option or whether it’s better to start with a gentler treatment.

What’s the difference between Cosmelan and a chemical peel?

A peel works during the session and is repeated in a series. Cosmelan is a protocol: one application in the clinic, continued at home for months with a maintenance cream. It’s usually reserved for more stubborn spots. They aren’t mutually exclusive · sometimes a maintenance peel is added afterward.

Can I have Cosmelan during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

We prefer to postpone it. Several of its actives aren’t used at that stage, and pregnancy changes pigmentation through hormonal changes. The sensible approach is to protect your skin from the sun consistently, keep a safe routine and have a new consultation once breastfeeding ends.

How much does Cosmelan cost in Bogotá?

The price includes the in-clinic application and the at-home maintenance kit, and it changes if the plan adds other treatments such as mesotherapy or peels. It depends on the diagnosis and the full plan, and you get it in writing at the free consultation. Your consultation at iki is free · 45 minutes.
